A Florida jury awarded $11.8 million to a family of Spanish tourists who perished on the Overseas Highway in 2018.
A construction company driver was found to be negligent in the accident which occurred in Islamorada, Florida in the spring of 2018. The victims' families hired attorneys who argued the company failed to properly train or screen the driver and that in turn was a proximate cause of the accident.
The jury took about 6 hours to return a verdict in favor of the decedents. Each family (there were 3) was awarded $2.36 million and one surviving spouse received twice that amount in compensation.
